There is a great deal of kinetic energy offered by these paintings; indeed it might rightly be identified as the primary subject matter for this work. A secondary connection is an oblique reference to landscape implied by the imagery. The result is the presentation of intangible atmospheres which reach for a measure of substance. densities, line quality and contrasts. For example, contrast a painting like Burning Bush with one like In the Spirit. In the former the piece is more open and emphemural whereas the latter tends to lock down the space with thicker lines and forms.
Curiously the color range for this body of work is rather limted which is a bit unfortunate considering how the other elements are handled. It would be interesting to see the range of hues pushed further.
