at any moment. The formality and order of the reductive esthetic is undermined by these sensual elements which includes, of course, the explicit use of light. The underlying tension then, what truly makes this work interesting and engaging, is this dual abstract expression of what can be identified as an embodiment of mind and spirit. Looking at this sculpture you recognize both but it’s impossible to separate the two.
Presentation is a very important aspect for this show. As already pointed out lighting is a critical feature and it’s handled extremely well. Yet because this is 3-dimensional work you can view all facets of it. For example, one view emphasizes illumination but walk around to another side and this view exposes more fully the relationship with space. These are sensitive works of art which require a significant amount of real estate to be fully appreciated. Although the gallery is enormous, given what these pieces are and their sizes the space feels cluttered. Comprehensively the show would have been better served with a bit less work.
