I have been working with the grid for many years. In these ink on paper pieces horizontals are primary with vestigial verticals remaining in some cases. In some pieces the paper has been primed so that there is a resist when the ink is applied creating another layer of incident. I draw and paint in an intuitive, meditative and deliberate way usually working over long periods of time, scraping, wiping and layering until the rhythm of of the work reaches an equilibrium. I am interested in light, movement and the tension between gesture and order, chance and control, openness and containment.. I want the work to be like the process, fluid, organic and physical.
